Manufacturing Engineer

Location: Marshall, MN - Southwest Minnesota

Job Description 

Support various manufacturing operations through implementation of equipment, tooling and processes.  Focus on improvements to processes, reduction of scrap, improvements to throughput and efficiencies and other improvement efforts.  Implementation of Lean Methodologies in a job shop environment. The ideal candidate will possess experience in the following areas: component winding, soldering, terminating and pouring. While proficiency in all areas is strongly preferred, candidates with experience in at least one or two of these skills, coupled with a consistent and positive work history, are encouraged to apply.

Essential Job Functions 

  • Identify equipment needs for production and assist with justification and implementation
    • Assist with training of production on new equipment, tools and techniques
  • Assist Design Engineering, Coaches and Technical staff in establishing equipment or tooling needs for new products
  • Provide input in establishing and reviewing labor standards and recommend changes as required
  • Participate in Coach Tech, Design Review, MRB and other technical meetings
  • Continuation engineering on existing products with emphasis on reducing scrap, material and labor cost
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts; focus on cost reduction, efficiency and quality improvements
  • Effective communication, spoken or written, with co-workers at all levels within BH Electronics
  • Follow all policies of BH Electronics that apply to this position including policies involving absenteeism, timeliness, safety, harassment, drug-free workplace, Quality Systems Policies, and others
  • Regular and timely attendance and ability to work safely.

Physical Elements Required

  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, lift and carry items up to 40 pounds and may be required to lift up to 60 pounds for placement of new equipment.  May be required to move heavier equipment or containers with the proper equipment and lifting techniques
  • Ability to move from various workstations and areas of the plant as needed to perform job responsibilities
  • Good finger dexterity
  • Must have 20/20 vision with correction
  • Ability to grasp and hold tools, materials, and parts with either hand
  • Ability to use and instruct other team members with the correct usage of hand tools
  • Ability to work with and near various chemicals without serious health consequences

Mental Elements Required

  • Ability to organize, plan, interpret data, make decisions and problem solve
  • Ability to accurately perform math for various calculations involved with work duties
  • Ability to effectively communicate (written & verbal in English) and work with team members at all levels of management
  • Ability to handle workplace stress (deadline pressures, working with vendors/customers, etc.), internal and external
  • Ability to develop safe applications and use of industrial chemicals, including appropriate documentation
  • Ergonomic principles in application
  • Ability to work safely at all times

Special Skills 

  • Knowledge of CAD (computer aided drafting) is useful
  • Familiar with MS Office and ability to learn software necessary for position
  • Knowledge of manufacturing engineering.  Experience is required and a degree is useful
  • Experience with tool design and machine selection
  • 3-D printing experience is preferred

Equipment Used

Production and test equipment for assembly operations. PC for support functions.

Education: 4-year degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent

Experience: 3 years experience or greater in a manufacturing engineering capacity in manufacturing. Previous manufacturing electronics assembly experience preferred
0-5 years experience as Manufacturing Engineer; experience with lean concepts (i.e. Kaizen, Taguchi, Theory of Constraints, 5S

Personal: This position requires a self-motivated individual with the ability to work independently in a team atmosphere within the guidelines and goals of objectives of the job description and the company.  Must be a good communicator in oral and written skills and well organized. Supervisory skills required.

This position is subject to the ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) and/or the EAR (Export Administration Regulations).  Candidates must qualify as a U.S. Person according to U.S. Federal law.

Benefits

This salary position is on site, located in Marshall MN (not remote) with a range from $67,200 annually to $100,800 annually, paid weekly. Our comprehensive benefits package includes medical, dental, vision and life and disability insurance. We also offer paid holidays, sick time, vacation time and a 401(k) retirement savings plan with a company match of $0.40 per dollar contributed, up to 4%.
